Whirling Dervishes Sema Ceremony

Numerous people all around the world admire and read Rumi. He does, however, hold a very particular place in the hearts of the Turkish people. One of the main reasons Turks like and admire him is his teachings, particularly his Sufi doctrine.

The Whirling Dervishes ceremony, commonly known as the Sema ceremony, is a ritual that many Sufi practitioners engage in. It represents the man's voyage to the higher creator and his subsequent return as a mature man who has attained perfection. This enables him to accept everyone and everything, regardless of their religion, ethnicity, age, gender, or socioeconomic standing, and to be of service to all living things.

The dervishes dress in white underneath a black coat, and they wear hats that represent tombstones. It's because the dervish is supposed to grow spiritually and let go of his ego. With his movements of the arms, hands, and feet during the Sema ceremony, one can readily see that the Dervish moves closer to the creator with each stride. He circles the center in a clockwise motion. You will undoubtedly feel calm and at peace during every minute of this ceremony. Check here the details of the Whirling Dervishes Show you can participate for FREE with Cappadocia Travel Pass®.

Derinkuyu Underground City

Here is one of the most mysterious places in the whole world! Derinkuyu is an underground city that was built by Christians to hide from Roman attacks. The depth of the Derinkuyu Underground City is about 85 meters. This underground city is made up of stalls, cellars, dining rooms, chapels, and junk stores, to name just a few of its features. Additionally, there is a missionary school in the second story. The 55-meter-deep, surface-connected ventilation shaft doubles as a water well. Only a very small portion of the Derinkuyu underground city, which was first opened in 1965, can currently be seen.

The earliest floors in an underground city are often the entrance levels, which were largely used as stables. This is due to the difficulty in moving the animals to lower floors. In underground cities that are cozy in the winter and summer, stum stores and kitchens are often found on the higher floors.

There is more to see in Derinkuyu Underground City, and you must see it for yourself! With Cappadocia Travel Pass®, the entrance to this amazing place is free!

There is so much to do in Cappadocia, and it is hard to tell them all in one article. So check out Cappadocia Travel Pass® and discover 25+ amazing attractions. If you have any questions in mind, don’t hesitate to contact us via our WhatsApp line and Instagram account! Enjoy your Cappadocia!
